Storms blast Alliance, bring flash-floods

Residents in and around Alliance are cleaning up after a lashing from Mother Nature. The storm late Sunday afternoon dumped heavy rain on Alliance and parts of surrounding Box Butte County.
The Weather Service says up to two inches of rain fell in a short time, bringing flash flooding of streets and wash-outs in low-lying areas. The force of the water hitting the storm sewers all at once was strong enough to blow off several manhole covers and some roads had to be temporarily closed due to flooding.
The storms also sparked power outages. There were no serious injuries reported.
