Teen murder trial underway

Jury selection began Monday in the trial of the youngest murder defendant in Douglas County history. 15-year-old Jordan Goodwin and another teen are accused in the October 5 death of a 6-year-old Alazia Alford.
Prosecutors allege 19-year-old Michael Coleman used then 14-year-old Goodwin to settle a score with two women he’d been feuding with. Coleman had been staying at a suspected crack house when it was raided October 2. He blamed 20-year-old Maya Mack and 22-year-old Alexis Carter for the bust. Days later, Goodwin fired upon the women injuring both of them and killing the girl who was in the car with them, according to police.
Goodwin has denied involvement with the shooting. His trial is to begin September 15.

The defense has claimed Goodwin’s actions are not premeditated but akin to manslaughter, an unintentional killing.
