Plane makes emergency landing in Norfolk

An emergency landing at the Norfolk airport Monday scrambled rescue crews. The pilot of the small private plane declared an emergency in flight. The plane was making its way from Georgia to Alaska with just the pilot and a passenger on board. Initial reports said the plane was in flames in the air, but as Norfolk’s fire crews rushed to the airport, word came over the radio that the plane had already landed — safely. The pilot was able to shut down the malfunctioning engine while still aloft and glided in. No one was hurt.
