Nick Gorneault’s grand slam in a five run third inning helped pace the Round Rock Express to an 8-6 win over the Omaha Royals to win the first in a four game series.
Round Rock scored a run in the second to tie the game after the O-Royals took a 1-0 lead on a Ryan Shealy sac fly. After the five run third, the Express added another run in the fourth.
The O-Royals were down 8-3 in the bottom of the eighth and rallied for three runs on Mike Stodolka’s single on a ground ball to center fielder to score Brian Buchanan and then a two run homer by Gookie Dawkins.
Brandon Duckworth took the loss to move to 3-10 giving up seven run in five innings including three home runs.
