O-Royals blow leads against Redbirds

The Omaha Royals blew two leads in falling in 12 innings to the Memphis Redbirds.  The Royals head into the PCL All-star break with a 45-52 record and a distant 16 games behind Iowa.

Omaha took a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 9th, off a Ryan Shealy homer in the top of the inning, but Leo Nunez couldn’t close the deal, so the game went into extras.

The O-Royals went up 5-3 in the 12th, but the Redbirds did it again.  Tyler Lumsden gave up a three run homer to Josh Phelps who had three hits on the day to help cap a 6-5 walk off win for Memphis.

The Royals will open a five-game homestand with Round Rock on Friday after the Pacific Coast League’s All-Star break.
