The Autism Center of Nebraska is being given one more chance. The Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services put the center on one-year probation. An audit by the Nebraska State Auditor found gross irregularities and mismanagement regarding state money. State Auditor Mike Foley is accusing the center of using money for personal expenses that included manicures, a dog, a furnace on the director’s home and a deck. The new agreement calls for close monitoring of financial practices at the ACN. The center currently serves about 65 people by providing part-time and full time residential services for those with autism.
