Water levels at Lake McConaughy near Ogallala are at the highest levels in five years and that contributed to a very successful 4th of July weekend. About 31,000 people visited the state’s largest lake daily over the four day holiday. Park officials believe that higher gas prices contributed to the good turnout as people came to the lake and stayed for the entire weekend instead of traveling to other destinations. Lake water levels were high enough for boaters. The lake is currently 46-percent of capacity.
