Omaha teen sentenced to 60-plus years for murder

19 year old Daunte Goynes was sentenced to 60 years to life in prison for the murder of  18 year old Aaron Lofton last year in Omaha.  Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine says this sentence is more than appropriate.  He says it sends a very strong message that our community is getting sick and tired of the senseless killing plaguing the city.  Also, our legal system is not going to tolerate this kind of violence any longer.  Goynes will not be eligible for parole for the next 35 years.  He was also sentenced 10 to 20 years for using a weapon to commit a felony.

Outside the courthouse, Aaron’s brother, Eric became emotional and had to be restrained by sheriff’s deputies.  He was not arrested and went home with his mother.  Eric played football at Northwest High School and was critically injured with a head injury during a game last fall.   Another brother tragically drowned several years ago.
