US Olympic swim trials started off with a bang yesterday at Qwest Center in Omaha. Michael Phelps broke his own world record in the 400 IM finishing in 4:05.25. Katie Hoff shattered the world record in the women’s 400 IM by going 4:31.12.
Runner-up Elizabeth Beisel finishing two hundredths of a second better than Hoff’s previous American mark. Larsen Jensen took down the U.S. mark in the 400 freestyle. Scott Usher, Grand Island native and 2004 Olympian advanced to tonight’s 100-meter breaststroke final by qualifying sixth in last night semifinals.
At the US Track and Field trials in Oregon, Jeremy Scott, a 1999 Norfolk High grad, advanced to the finals, but did not place in the top three in the pole vault finals.
