U.S. Olympic swimming trials start Sunday in Omaha

After a busy couple two weeks of hosting the College World Series, the city of Omaha now shifts it’s focus to the pool, hosting the US Olympic Swimming Trials.

Swimming fans will have the opportunity to interact with Olympic legends such as Mark Spitz, Matt Biondi, Rowdy Gaines, Jenny Thompson and Donna de Varona in the USA Swimming Aqua Zone during the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Swimming at Qwest Center Omaha.
 
The schedule for Saturday at the free Aqua Zone is as follows:
 
Schedule of Swimming Legend Appearances:
10 a.m. – Mel Stewart, a double gold medalist in 1992 in the 200-meter butterfly and the 400-meter medley relay. He now does work for the USA Swimming Foundation and for Swimnetwork.com
3 p.m. – Pablo Morales, the current head coach at the University of Nebraska was a 1984 Olympic gold medalist who missed the team in 1988, only to come back in 1992 and win two more gold medals
 
The trials get underway Sunday with the prelims starting at 11am and the finals at 6:45. The first events are the men’s 400 IM, womens’ 100 Fly, men’s 400 Free, women’s 400 IM, and men’s 100 Breast.
