The Omaha Royals swept the New Orleans Zephyrs winning 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon wrapping up their 16 game road trip during the College World Series at Rosenblatt Stadium. The O-Royals finish the road trip 10-6 having won seven of those against New Orleans.
Royals starting pitcher Matt Wright (3-4) got the win after giving up three runs on three hits in five innings. Wright got the offensive support he needed as the O-Royals scored three in the top of the third by manufacturing runs with singles and a double play. The Omaha lead got to 4-0 when Jason Smith homered in the fourth.New Orleans came back with three in the bottom of the fourth, thanks in part to a two run homer by Michel Abreu.
After a 23-minute rain delay in the ninth inning, the Zephyrs cut the lead to one run on left fielder Chris Aguila’s single. But it wasn’t enough as Abreu grounded out for the final out of the game with Brandon Duckworth getting the save.
The O-Royals now have two days off before hosting Oklahoma this weekend.
