About 100 people, many clutching candles, gathered for a flag ceremony and vigil at a World War II monument in Omaha’s Memorial Park Thursday evening. They were honoring four boy scouts who were killed and dozens more that were injured when a tornado hit the Little Sioux Scout Ranch in Northwest Iowa.Governor Dave Heineman toured the damage Thursday and told us, the tornado had extreme strength. Weather service officials have rated the tornado an EF-3, with winds exceding 135 miles per hour.
The Governor says the scouts were prepared and had even had a tornado-drill the day before the tornado. Around 50scouts took cover inside the bunk house just minutes before the tornado hit.
