The Major League Baseball draft starts today at 1pm. Some local arms could be picked in the two day 50 round draft. Two Husker names surfacing on BaseballAmerica.com, junior lefty Dan Jennings and junior righty Aaron Pribanic.
Both of those pitchers could replace Johnny Dorn’s spot at the top of the rotation if they return to Nebraska next year.
Also, a couple of Blue Jays are hopeful today, junior first baseman Darin Ruf and senior pitcher Pat Venditte who was selected in the 45th round last year by the Yankees, will be watching. If you don’t much about Venditte, not only is he a right handed pitcher, but he’s also a left handed pitcher. Check out the video.
I’m also paying attention to Nebraska City native Nick Schumaker of Wayne State. He went 13-2 this past season. Head coach John Manganaro told NRN.com in an interview last month that he wouldn’t be surprised at all if Nick’s name was called within these two days.
MLB.com or ESPN 2 will have coverage at 1pm if you want to follow the draft.
