Lincoln Regional Patient Will Defend Self In Murder Trial

A judge in Lancaster County has approved a request by a patient at the Lincoln Regional Center to defend himself at an upcoming trial.  Eric Lewis is accused of second degree murder in the death of Dr. Louis Martin.  Authorities say that Lewis attacked and killed Martin last July.  Martin, who was a psychiatrist at the center, died ten days later. Judge Paul Merritt did appoint an attorney for Lewis as a stand-by and Lewis strongly objected to the move.  He also became upset when several other of his requests were denied.  He had wanted to subpoena 43 people.  Lewis stated that these people witnessed authorities in Omaha place a band around his head and then a wire in his ear so they could monitor and harass him.
