Authorities in western Nebraska are on the lookout for vandals who’ve been defacing one of the region’s most unusual monuments. Twice in the past two weeks, vandals have plastered graffiti on the cars at Carhenge. They’ve spray-painted “2008” and various obscenities in more than 20 places on the vehicles.
The exhibit in Alliance is patterned after the famous and ancient rocks of Stonehenge in England, but Nebraska’s version is made of old cars that are painted stone gray. It’s considered one of the top 20 places to visit in America, at least according to Life Magazine.
The group, Friends of Carhenge, is offering a 500-dollar reward for information that brings arrests and convictions in the vandalism.
