Andres Torres hit a three run homer and tripled off of O-Royals starting pitcher Tyler Lumdsen as the Iowa Cubs beat the O-Royals in the first game of this series 5-4.
Lumdsen (1-5) gave up five runs on nine hits over seven innings as the Cubs scored four times in the first three innings.
Trailing 1-0, the O-Royals jumped to a 3-1 lead in the 2nd off of winning pitcher Kevin Hart after Brian Buchanan doubled and Jason Smith walked ahead of an Angel Berroa single, who would later score on a missed throw by Jason Dubois on a pick off attempt. Chris Lubanski would also single in a run in that big inning.
That’s when Omaha gave the lead right back. With the loss, Omaha 1.5 behind Iowa and Memphis for first place.
