Goose calls Joba and says cool it

There was a story that ran in the New York Times earlier this week by Tyler Kepner who reported that former relief pitcher Goose Gossage called Joba Chamberlain and told him that his celebrating on the mound and pump fisting was not the right thing to do.

While Chamberlain spoke to Gossage, he also made it very clear that he wasn’t going to change his style or what got him to the big leagues from small town Kearney, Nebraska.
There was a lot made of his fist pump and twirl were a little over the top in the Yankees first game of the season.  He did it against Cleveland’s David Delluci two nights after Delluci hit a home run off of Chamberlain.
