Nebraska’s set of academic standards is not clearly defined. So says Janet Bass with the American federation of teachers. She says the standards define what a student to learn. She says Nebraska is one of seven states that received a zero from the federation because the academic standards of the state did not meet any of the criteria set up by the American federation of teachers. Bass says standards are a foundation, and should match up more with states like Virginia, who scored 100%. Bass says the federation will continue to keep the pressure on Nebraska to make improvements. She says in order for teachers to teach well and students to learn the standards need to be re-written.
