State senators saluted Nebraska’s longest-serving state senator on the last day of the Legislature. Speaker Mike Flood told a story about a young African-American child who once asked him how he could be like Ernie Chambers. Chambers spent 38 years in the Legislature and was term limited out of office this year. The Judiciary Committee meeting room was named for him.
